Saying goodbye is never easy for us. It tugs at our heartstrings and brings a wave of memories, but it’s also necessary—because every goodbye marks the beginning of a new season. As we take on our digital nomad adventure, we recognize that change is not just inevitable; it’s important. It allows us to grow, explore new possibilities, and embrace the unknown. This journey is one we’re excited for, but it also means leaving behind the familiar faces we’ve come to cherish in our home, town and community.
From our trusted tailor to our barista, dental hygienist, dry cleaner, and hairdresser, these professionals are more than just great at what they do—they are genuine people who have become part of our daily life. While often overlooked, they play an essential role in helping us present our best selves to the world. Whether we’re getting ready to attend our first high school dance, or attend our friends’ wedding, or meeting a client for the first time, we rely on their expertise. We’re grateful for the relationships we’ve built and look forward to using their services when we are back in Illinois.
Then there are the family and friends who’ve been our rock throughout the years. Despite the whirlwind of packing, organizing, selling, and donating in preparation for this next chapter, we always prioritized time for those who matter most. Coffee chats, dinners, over one hour FaceTime / Zoom calls, and casual get-togethers are moments we’ll cherish forever, and hearing everyone's stories about their own next steps—whether it’s planning a wedding, growing a family, traveling, or searching for a new job—reminds us that life is filled with chapters.
As we turn the page on this part of our lives, we don’t see it as a farewell but a "see you later." Our paths may diverge, but the bonds we’ve built will remain strong and thanks to technology we can have it all. We all have new adventures ahead of us, and while we’re setting off on our trek, it’s comforting to know we’re all writing our next chapters together. So, as we embrace the future, we remember the past, we are extremely grateful for the people who have shaped our lives and look forward to seeing where each of you are at when we check in next.
